Do I Need a Women’s Health Physio?

If you’re searching for a Women’s Health Physio in Bexley because something doesn’t feel quite right — leaking when you run, heaviness after having a baby, or pain you’ve been putting up with — you’re not alone. Many women across Bexley and the surrounding areas wait far too long before getting support, often assuming their symptoms are “normal.”

They assume:

  • “It’s normal after having kids.”

  • “It’s just hormones.”

  • “It’ll settle.”

  • “Everyone leaks a bit.”

But here’s the truth: just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s normal — and it definitely doesn’t mean you have to live with it.

So how do you know if you need to see a women’s health physio?

You might benefit if you experience:

1. Leaking urine

  • When you cough, sneeze or run

  • During exercise

  • On the way to the toilet

Even “just a few drops” is a sign your system needs support.

2. A feeling of heaviness or dragging vaginally

This can feel worse at the end of the day or after being on your feet. It may indicate pelvic organ prolapse — and early treatment makes a big difference.

3. Pain with sex

Pain is never something you should simply tolerate. Whether it’s postnatal, post-menopausal or something you’ve always experienced — it’s treatable.

4. Ongoing abdominal separation (diastasis recti)

If you feel doming, instability, or weakness months (or years) after pregnancy, it’s not too late to improve it.

5. Pelvic pain

Including:

  • Tailbone pain

  • Pubic bone pain

  • Bladder pain

  • Period-related pelvic pain

These are complex but very treatable with the right approach.

6. You want to return to running or the gym after having a baby

The 6-week GP check is not a musculoskeletal assessment. If you want to feel confident returning to impact, guidance matters.

What Actually Happens at a Women’s Health Physio Appointment?

A proper assessment looks at:

  • Your story

  • Your movement

  • Your breathing

  • Your strength

  • And, where appropriate, an internal pelvic floor assessment

It’s thorough. It’s respectful. And it’s always your choice.

You Don’t Have to “Just Get On With It”

Women are incredibly good at tolerating discomfort.

But you deserve:

  • To run without leaking

  • To have pain-free sex

  • To lift without fear

  • To feel strong in your body

If any of this resonates, it might be time to get support.

I work with women across Bexley, Dartford and surrounding areas, offering private pelvic health physiotherapy appointments in a calm, supportive environment.

From 23rd March I’ll also be working Mondays, meaning more appointment availability if you’ve been thinking about booking but struggling to find a slot.

Spring is a good time to stop putting yourself at the bottom of the list.
